I think alli already had mental issues. I think he was hurt at a young age, probably fighting. He has serious signs of mania. I'm not saying he is retarded, he was smart, but just seemed a little wakky

Beating George Foreman once didn't prove much. There needed to be a rematch to really solidify Mohammed Ali's dominance over George Foreman.

At approximately 7:50 David Frost says that after 7 rounds the commentators could only agree that the fight was too close to call? What the fuck is he talking about the fucking moron was there. Ali won every fucking round up to that point. After four rounds it was quite obvious Foreman's chances we're almost gone. The eighth round while thrilling was almost anti climactic. Foreman had nothing on his punches by the time he went down!!!

Ya know, he's right about Foreman's punching power in his first career. It wasn't all that impressive. Compared to other historic punchers, he was not with them. Louis would finish you, once he decided to punch. Sometimes, unfortunately for him, that would not be in the 1st fight. Still, when Louis decided to punch, he was utterly explosive. Marciano, when he decided to punch or was motivated to punch, was even more powerful than Louis with a single punch. With him, a picture is worth a thousand words and, so, too, was his crushing punches against Walcott. Liston was more effective than George, too, if he could hit you. Frazier had more 1 punch knockout ability in comparison with Foreman and maybe more power, too. It took Foreman several punches to knock fighters down. People forget that Joe being a slow starter and Foreman being a fast starter might account for that appearance of discrepancy. Clay supposedly said Joe hit harder than Foreman. Robinson was also far more devastating in the lb4lb discussion! Foreman's strengths were cutting the ring off, exploiting a defensive weakness with borderline great power punching, and having the stamina to go 7 rounds throwing his best stuff(so long as he was not missing you). Nobody was going to last half of that or keep him off, so the only way to win was being able to defend both the head and body equally well. Clay did it.

His name is Muhammad Ali. Do you go around calling Archie Leach Archie Leach? Know you call him Cary Grant. Do you call Marion Wayne Marion Wayne? Know you call him John Wayne do you ever call Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Lou alcindor no. Did you ever call Jamaal Wilkes Keith Wilkes no? Ahmad Rashad do you ever call him his former name before he legally changed it? Do you ever call Howard cosell by his original last name? No. Muhammad Ali his his name and a man has the right to be called by the name he chooses. Whether it's Muhammad Ali or whether it's Gordon Sumner who you would never get away with calling Gordon he would punch you in the face and say my name is Sting!

sorry david, this fight was not close up until round 8. ali was in total control.
Riccardo Alcaro 6 months ago
njclondon2009 exactly. I don’t know why people keep saying that it was a close fight. Even the doc, When we were kings, which is great anyway, indulges in this romantic fantasy, perhaps for drama purposes. Reality is Ali did not make a single mistake in Kinshasa, and even if he didn’t fly, he did sting Foreman, with sharp precision, again and again for eight rounds. This fight was Ali’s technically best performance

There's no way Ali could have lost this fight. He was in the zone. Tremendous self belief. Losing was not an option for him. Plus his speed and skill and intelligence. Foreman was looking confused after round 1. He just hoped for a win from throwing some hard punches.
Anthony Willis 9 months ago
He pretty much predicted the fight!
Billy Bronco 10 months ago
With hindsight it seems a shame Ali didn't retire after this fight. Maybe his health wouldn't have suffered as much? Hindsight is a wonderful thing. There's always that one more chance of glory. One more pay cheque that kept him going.
DYLAN CHANGED EVERYTHING FOREVER 15 days ago
Ali said he had no regrets he lived 30 lifetimes in his 70-plus years and had experiences that no one else had used his skill in the ring and his Fame outside too affect tremendous change after he retired he remained a generous man extremely generous to a fault even when he was fighting and he was giving away a lot of his money. For his boxing career he always had a huge amount of hangers-on and he had such a big heart he pretty much bankroll them all the way through 1981. He didn't manage his money all that well and Don King is a thief took a lot of money from the fighters whose fight he promoted. Did so without late when I leave would we driving down the street with his limo driver he would tell his limo driver to stop a feet saw a homeless person or a group of homeless people he would come out of the limo shadow box for them and give them hope and also it happened more times than the limo drivers could count Ali would take his wallet out and give away every bit of cash he had on him getting back in the limo he would look at the limo driver shaking his head and say what are you shaking your head for the limo driver would say you Champ you can't keep doing that! Muhammad Ali would say these people have no money I can drive to the bank and get more money. Muhammad Ali's last two fights against holmes and berbick or because he was basically broke as far as cash money even though he did on a lot of property and homes and collectible cars and whatnot in 1979 with no cash coming in Ali was much more cash poor. a promoter off is you millions of dollars to come back and fight even though you're well past your prime I guess millions of dollars it's tough to turn down

Does anyone think he has the beginnings of the disease here? most people agree he had it since at least 75, this was 74. I'm not sure myself. His words are not coming out the was they did a few years b4 in my opinion. I'm not saying he wasn't fit to fight. I just think maybe? the disease had already took hold. opinions please
Evader 4 months ago
I don't know how his words were coming out, his punches were coming out as vicious as ever though, Foreman will confirm that!
sherom 6 months ago
He is very sharp here, if he would of retired after this fight, I truly believe he would of never developed Parkinson's disease.
Alek wójcik 1 year ago
Kevin Dunn I do think, that the signs of Parkinson disease started showing after foght in Manila. In 1976 he slowed, but still mamy people say it was not clear that he had Parkinson at that time, because if you do some research you will notice that his speech, which is a good indicator was very decent, at least until Shavers fight, when it started deteriorated drastically. Of course Ali in 1974 was slowe, than he had benn 7-8 years earlier, but take a point that he was about 32-33 years old, which might be a good reason why he was slower. At that time his speech was very similar to old Ali from 60s. I do think that something happened in Manila, just compare his pre-Manila fights ( Joe Bugner - june 75 ), to his post-Manila fights ( Ken Norton sept -76, then Shavers 77, and Spinks 78, when he was missing punches very often, amd had no speed and reflexes at all ). Before Manila even in 1975, he spoke still very quickly and clearly, and his speed was very decent ( tko on Lyle round 11, fast flurry, which came from nowhere, same with Bugner, when he showed he could still go distance, and be fast ). In 1976 it was clear that Ali was loosing every advantage, which he had had before, but some people, among his former doctor who left the camp in 1977 said that it wasn’t still that bad in 1976, and he could avoid a lot of negative effects which he had later. I also think, that teh fights, which destroyed him and caused main brain damage were after Manila ( mostly Shavers and Spinks ). If you notice how hurt Ali was during Shavers fight you will know what I mean. Later preparations for the 2nd Spinks fight took everything out of champion ( It is well known, that he was training furiosly, and sparred a lot at that time ). To sum up I really think ( honestly I am sure ) that in 1974 Ali had no signs of Parkinson. It started appearing after Manila, and got MUCH worse when kept fighting, especially in late 1977, and 1978. I am not mentioning Holmes and Berbick fights, because at that time it was clear ( before the Holmes fight ), that Ali is slow, he couldn’t even hit a speed bag, which is shown in some yt clips.
Tony M 1 year ago
'best ever' is something where your own personal opinion comes in. both men paid dearly w/ their health for that bout. if he retired after beating Foreman, which is why he kept on in the first place(to regain his title, which George took from smokin' Joe) we wouldn't be discussing that 3rd meeting in Manilla.great bout, yes. but overkill also. two Hall of Famers w/ nothing left to prove pounding on each other. of course, I have to give it up to Joe for trying to gain back the title, and ALI, for giving him the shot.but let's face it'.the money was there.

Redfield 100% 7 months ago
+Amjad Khan yes you can. You could easily watch a video with Ali and comment on his boxing or charisma ect. Everything doesn't have to come down to religion. It's incredibly narrow minded to believe that it does. There's obviously a place for religion but not in a video about boxing.

Absolutely the most Magic moment in boxing history when Ali knocked out Foreman. Just everything that led up to it, Ali was like a Christ figure in that country, after the first round I could tell he wasn't feeling right. So he used his incredible mental fight talent to divise a greater strategy in his own mind, his corner didn't even know what he was doing. But Ali just stayed with his plan like it was divine intervention, and waited for his spot and bam. Wasn't what he planned before. Mazing.
