XXXTentacion Dead at 20

Just a few words on the passing of Florida rapper XXXTENTACION. XXXTENTACION Dead at 20 One of hip-hop’s rising stars and controversial figures, XXXTentacion, has been pronounced dead. The 20-year-old was reportedly shot and killed while in his car in Broward County. News of the death is confirmed by the Broward sheriff’s office. Born Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, the Florida native was ascending to prominence in the hip-hop world with his alternative rock infused sounds often branded as “emo rap.” As the founder of his Bad Vibes Forever label, X recently celebrated the No. 1 debut of his sophomore album ? on the Billboard 200 chart. His debut album 17 received gold status in 2017, and his viral single “Look At Me” is certified platinum. His Spotify profile boasts over 16 million monthly listeners and his YouTube page counts over 837 million views -- both will likely increase following his passing. The young star did not come without controversy. He was facing a slew of legal troubles, including aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, domestic battery and witness-tampering. In May 2018, Spotify removed X’s music - along with R. Kelly and Dallas rapper Tay-K - from their official curated playlists as a way to take action against artists they considered to represent hateful conduct. The company restored XXXTentacion to their playlists weeks later. XXXTentacion joins musicians such as Avicii and Lil Peep as talents gone too soon. In the wake of his passing, tributes and condolences have poured in from peers and fans.

Even though this is very sensitive subject for other people that knew him and Personal for his family and loved ones. Even though it may sound Harsh, I like your Pure Honesty, because I do see a lot of people that never knew this person and now because he's Dead, they act like He was a fallen star to Hip Hop and like you said putting melancholic music with fake hypocritical tears just to milk whatever is left out of a Deadman. This is the same equivalent when your Family or Friends never gave a Shit about you or called you to see how you was doing and all of a sudden you're Dead and they're throwing Rest In Peace signs with Fucking Emoticons on facebook and social media. And the most cliche shit You Will Never Be Forgotten, We Will Miss You! and We Will Always Love You along with People who you never seen before in your life, visiting your Funeral. This is Reality

It’s kind of morbid for people to be applauding his death. He was a piece of shit to me, but it’s just like when Americans were celebrating the death of Bin Laden. Padlock Jones wrote a diss to him, but I told him it was in bad taste. We might still release it though. Idk. — DJ Phocus

Oh boy I remember discovering X around January of last year. My best friend and I really enjoyed his very abrasive raps on SoundCloud Sadly more and more details about his domestic abuse case, including the horrific testimony that came out in the latter half of the year, began to surface. It really distorted my view of him. I know a lot of people say “there’s no evidence” but that doesn’t mean we should completely dismiss a potential victim’s words IMO. I wouldn’t call myself a supporter but I did listen to his projects (17 and ?) just to have a well-rounded opinion of his music. When I heard the news I really didn’t know what to feel. I completely disagree with people saying he got what he deserved. Justice should be served civilly, not through a bullet. He was an intelligent person who was deeply mentally disturbed, and—if there truly is an afterlife—I hope he finds peace wherever he goes next.

Fuck this abuser and homophobe. Who gives a fuck he was 20.
KayodaGuapo _ 6 months ago
He meant a lot to me because he was very intelligent dude with limitless potential and artistry. And above all else he was just genuine which you don’t see much of in the industry or in life. And he didn’t just turn it on or off.that was who he was 1000% of the time and you could tell whenever the man spoke and in his music. You felt as if he was speaking his message directly to you thru the screen, headphones, etc which is why he’s amassed such a large and dedicated family of supporters that I’m proud to call myself a member. RIP X.another young and bright brother gone too soon.

Thank you, D. Respect. I was in the middle of having a spiritual experience when I got a phone call delivering the news of his death from my girlfriend. I thought she was joking at first. When she swore she wasn't, I went to Youtube to confirm my greatest fear--not his death, which I immediately accepted, but the capitalization of his death. Clout! Clout! Clout! FAKE NEWS! So, so, so many videos, reactions, and other posts about his death, from every platform and talk show and news outlet and media personality and celebrity. Some seemed sincere. Some. Most are capitalizing. It made me nauseous. I relate--related?--to X a lot. Not a skin deep suicide emo aesthetic, like, this man talked in a language of pain and suffering and mistakes and growth and spirit and raw energy and purpose and dreams and deep, deep, tragic misunderstanding, and the isolation and loneliness that follows. I'm not a moron. If I had met him in real life, I don't know if we would have been friends or anything. But I *respected* him. I *understood* him. I know why he did bad things. Made evil music--not to sow evil. It was a warning. I NEED LOVE, I NEED DRUGS, I NEED SAVIOOOOORR A cry for help. A frightened little boy, with a big dumb heart, who was tricked by his demons and regretted it, and feared to show that regret. That weakness. He was an inspiration to me. A metaphor. A worthy rival. A stubborn ally. He's dead. When I see the plastic figureheads parade his body about, forcing themselves to weep for the likes and the followers and the meaningless pixels and equally meaningless paper, I didn't just see Jahseh Onfroy, a small boy, hijacked and bastardized with no further say for himself. I saw me. I saw the rest of us. The Forgotten, the Forsaken, the ones who dared to challenge the Plastic. I know you say you're too old for his music, D. Respect, or whatever your name is. But I know there's something in you that understands who just died. Not the savior, the anti hero. The rebel. The scream into the void, as Kim Kardashian and the Republicans and Democrats and McDonald's and Walmart and BP all twiddle the Kanye West, the Lil Pump, the Migos, the marionettes in their fingers. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. I'm going insane. I'm projecting, hahaha! I'm still in denial! I haven't accepted anything! Woo hoo real, not fun, unfashionable mental illness! My representative died! Hahahahahaha! His words fell again and again, on deaf ears! Will my lips do any better???? I will never conform because of simple PRINCIPLE. Jahseh Onfroy reassured me I wasn't batshit, just that the (best case scenario) apathetic and ignorant and (worst case scenario) evil people of this world wanted people like me to believe this. To stop real, meaningful, everlasting change. Love. Love. Love. Please don't be numb. That tattoo isn't the truth, it's the mask. He didn't want to wear it, he felt like he *had* to. Ahahahahaha! Yep, I'm just ccccrrAAAYYYYZZyyyyY!!!!!!!

LOCK ME UP IN A PADDED CELL, DRUG ME UNTIL I CONSENT TO THIS PLASTIC, HYPER NEON, FLASHY, BRUTAL, SNAKEY, HATEFUL, SPITEFUL, FESTERING WAY OF LIFE, AYE? Fuck this. Going to sleep. Nobody will read this. If they do they don't understand. Who am I talking to? Lol. Silly. Pathetic. Goodbye.

You want to know how a random fan feels about his death? I can't tell you. Fuck the lot of them. Most of them just lust for violence, for gratification, for aesthetics, for bullshit. But I'm telling you man. I'm another Jahseh Onfroy sitting over here in my underwear not having slept (its 6am) nursing another cigarette, visiting my only friend who lives across the country, wondering for the 4th day in a row how the fuck I'm going to return back to customer service to the most horrible species I've come to know for another year after a mere 11 days of vacation. I shouldn't be complaining, should I? Be thankful for what you have! People have it worse! Just look at the ignored HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of people we *BOMB AND STARVE OUT* every fucking year!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

A young kid taken away in such a fashion is a horrific, sad occurrence. Regarding his music, I’m 28, and I thought his music was something that was welcomed due to how open he was and how he wanted to help young kids like him get through struggles that don’t necessarily have easy answers. It’s comforting for kids to know someone’s fighting the same battles as you and will fight with you. It’s easy to see how that connected with a large audience, and I was curious to see where he’d take his sound and how he’d expand on his lyric topics as he got older. Sadly, we’ll never know. RIP Xxxtentacion.

Why we still celebrating death in 2018? Killing kids is what he talked about and that's what happened to him. He wasn't a martyr or a victim, he just got unlucky. And if we really out here celebrating the death of a 20 year old, where are we going?
TheAbsurdist 7 months ago
Ak knew X personally tho. That's a where you were wrong. See Ak built a connection with X and X genuinely liked the guy. It goes like this. Ak basically reported all of X's mishaps from being a fan. This is what got X a lot of popularity. He stayed in Aks videos. Videos which were viewed by millions. They both kinda helped eachother from there. That exposure made X pop, which X used said exposure to reach out to Ak and have genuine conversations about. When X got bigger than Ak, he used his clout to get Ak more clout. The two damn near helped eachother out so of course there was some connection.

I’ve never spoken on anything he’s done positive or negative. I was literally indifferent to him as a rapper and an individual. However, seeing him go after all I’ve heard about him trying to turn his life around and improving himself and others around him, it really got to me. I just feel like he had so much going for him, and to see his life selfishly taken from him like that.It really sucks.

Yes absolutely. Go back to 4:00-5:00 and hear yourself. AK has always provided his audience with news dealing with rappers from Chiraq to Drake to Meek Mil and the list goes on. XXXtentacion, Trippie Red, 69 are some of Ak's favorite rappers and I'm sure those weren't crocodile tears when he heard one of them died. He's human bro.

His music did help me through hard times and it’s unfair to judge him based on allegations of bad actions. At the end of the day he was shot in cold blood and so many lives will be worse for it. He had so much left to do and so many more people to touch. Sure I didn’t love each and every song but you can listen to the entire 17 album and feel something cohesive and if his artistry had been given time to mature lord only knows what we could have heard. RIP X, you might not have expected to effect millions of people’s lives this week and going on into the future, but you have and you will.

He was just 20, almost my age, I hope he got to accomplish his dreams/passions. RIP X.
Thomas Shelton 7 months ago
I can't claim to have been a fan of him as a person, those domestic assault charges didn't look good on his end, but, for what it's worth, he was a decent rapper. Regardless, this is a tragedy, and not because he was famous but because he was a human being, he was just a kid. For all his mistakes he still had a lot of growing to do, maturing, learning from past wrongdoings, and in time becoming a better man. Whatever controversy he may have been involved in he still managed to reach a lot of people, help others cope with their own pains and regrets (not to say he shouldn'tve been punished for what he did to that woman, part of becoming a man is facing the repercussions of your sins and repenting). No matter who he was in life, this shouldn'tve happened, if for no other reason than the injustice and inhumanity of leaving a mother to bury her child. So for whatever it's worth, RIP XXXTentacion, another young brother taken from this world far too soon.

D Respect I agree with that a hundred percent. But ultimately it’s become a realm of desensitization on social media. We can only do our part to stay true to ourselves and let the bullshit be what it is, bullshit. There’s nothing wrong in expressing your thoughts upon it but we have to move forward at the end of the day.
D Respect 7 months ago
i didnt say they couldn't report on his death.I said the tone they spoke with was fake. I'm sure you were in full support of AK when Mensa mentioned AK making fun of his dead cousin. Everyone is brother, friend, mother or daughter to someone The very somber tone that AK took proves Vic Mensa's point.NOW that your friend dies.its a serious matter NOW that someone who you had a relationship.be it professional or personal has died.you now see the humanity.where was that when he reported all those deaths.and instigated beefs posting videos like Tekashi tells _______ to pull up! Dig your head out of your ass jr THINK for a second

zero I don’t have a problem with D Respect for saying his perspective on this, but now he can’t take it all back, which I’ll assume he won’t. At the end of the day, it was a young man who died an unfortunate death and we should let the man rest easy.

There was a time that I was really into his music, but with his rise to popularity, he began to diss everyone (in some cases with legit reasons, I understood that) and don't know why, but it tarnished his image for me, because for me it was all a cry-out for attention and I cannot be cool with that. I began to dislike the music and mostly the fanbase. When all the popularity came to him, I saw him as pretentious at first, but has he kept helping ppl with mental problems and giving out to charities, I started to like him a bit more again, not the recent music tho. He was big for me in one part of my life and I will miss him for that. RIP X

It's definitely tragic how he had to go at such a young age I wasn't a fan of his and certainly not a fan of him as a person, but I would be lying if I told you that his passing left me affected in any way, tbh I was mostly apathatic towards this whole tragedy. All in all he didn't deserve this despite of the things he has done, but I can't be pretending to sit here and act like I mourn his death. Regardless, condolences to his family and friends for their loss.
LegendInThaMakin 7 months ago
As for the akademics thing, I think it was more than him reporting the death of another rapper. They spoke on a personal level and I think they were actually friends. Nothing wrong with ak being sad, he feels like he lost a friend. Asides from that the whole vid was pretty on point.
LegendInThaMakin 7 months ago
I’m in the same boat where I didn’t really listen to his music nor am I going to pretend I was a fan in anyway l. Didn’t pay attention to his antics, I’m 27. just felt like his music wasn’t for me and couldn’t really relate to it. I felt like he made music for the kids of this generation and that was fine, didn’t hate him, just casually ignored him. I do feel like his death is sad and almost unreal. can I generally say that I truly care or am emotionally moved? Uh not really, I don’t know the truth of his controversies either. Did he really support Dylan roof and say death to darkskins? That’s wild. Maybe that’s why I don’t really feel anything. Rip regardless I guess.

Ak and Dom both knew him personally tho. So their is less of a disconnect in this situation. I agree with the rest of the video Rip X😭💔. His music made me feel like I wasn't alone. His story gave me hope for better days. Gone so young💔😭

Hey does anybody remember when DJ akademiks mockingly read kehlani's letter after she attempted to commit suicide I do

Bro those shots at Ak are really unfair. X’s life is more precious to Ak than random other people because he was Ak’s friend. I’m fully with you on the domestic issues being brought up though. People claiming to stand on the moral high ground while spitting on X’s grave sicken me.

Fuck akademiks. Remember he justified having a channel which profited from black death cuz it was satirical.

I think it's fair because Ak does make fun of this type of stuff all the time. There's a huge disconnect there.

X was involved in some satanic stuff and even told another rapper and close friend(Ski mask) that he was suppose to be a sacrifice.oh and AK don't really care.AK is a cold dude hes on some paranoia shit.afraid of others doing the same thing he does (hip hop media on YouTube) in fear of losing his followers to them.which is happening already

As usual really insightful commentary. Ak and Dom had me cringing with their melodramatic bs.

Dom? As in Dom's Sketch Cast? Did he do a video on this subject? Couldn't find it.

I do agree on the aspect of people who are feeling sorrow about a environment that they facilitate such tragedies to happen as being shallow remorse

Thing with Ak is that he actually knew him, he goes into his relationship with him in the video so that’s why I give him a pass. Speaking about a person miles away, from a city you dont go to, that you don’t know is completely different from someone that you knew personally.
Ultimate Manhunter 6 months ago
GoatView ENT part of the reason that I commented that was because I wanted to believe Ak is more than a media guy and actually cared for him. After hearing Joe say that Ak said “if something happens to the kid is on him” and other shit like that I’m wit y’all. Fuck Ak 💯.

Ultimate Manhunter the validity of their friendship is a factor tho. I get tired of people mistreating eachother in life but do a 180 when they're no longer here. Ak was content with hurting the mans career cause he was cool with someone he didn't like and admitted to it, I don't wanna hear this bullshit
Ultimate Manhunter 7 months ago
GoatView ENT you’re making a statement about the validity of they’re friendship, which I already said Is not the point of my comment. To your point however you can wrong someone, or be mad at someone but still feel something or be touched by they’re death. I know that first hand. I’m not even an Ak supporter, I don’t watch his channel but I don’t believe this type of everything should be equal narrative that D believes.

Ultimate Manhunter wasn't just a few weeks ago Akademiks was tryna snitch on xxx and expose him for yelling and being aggressive cause xxx was cool with domislive? Don't believe the bullshit

Toney Mac I’m not arguing the validity of their friendship. I’m saying comparing the people from the war in chiraq, who he has no relation too, with a person that he did have a personal relationship with isn’t a fair point.
