Seriously who the fuck comes up with this shit? The owl did it. lol Although Michael does haave owl looking eyebrows - that is as close to an owl this case involves. HAD THE ATTACK FROM THE OWL HAPPENED OUTSIDE- ole Michael by the pool would have heard her scream. In life there are NO Coincidences - the neighbor that dies the same way in Germany was also done by Michael I am willing to bet. He got away with murder before - it worked for him. He did it again. And anyone with the morals of a piss ant like he has - is capable, repeat capable of ANYTHING.

So the theory basically says that Mike originally got so lucky because he really wanted his wife dead so he can get her money and himself out of debt and free to swing so to speak and WOW.she gets attacked by an owl and is bleeding to death. Why wouldn't he simply just do nothing and wait for her to pass out (and die) and then call 911 tell them that he woke up in the morning and found his wife dead. Show a few feathers and let the police look at that scenario (which was true)?

Owl attacks Kathleen She begins to go upstairs for towels She quickly feels woozy and falls back down the stairs, hitting her head on the doorway. She loses consciousness She later comes back around and tries to get up, her back going up against the wall smudging blood on it in the attempt In doing so she gets blood on her feet due to the heavy bleeding creating a pool of blood whilst she was out She coughs out blood on the same wall, as the heavy bleeding reacts to her head movement She loses consciousness for a final time and dies of blood loss. It makes sense. Owl attacks whilst rare can cause very bad bleeding. They have been known to knock grown men to the floor during an attack and leave them needing to go through numerous towels before the ambulance arrived. I think part of why people's initial reaction to the owl attack hypothesis is laughter is due to how our culture sees Owls. They're seen as gentle and wise. We don't grow up thinking of them like we do, say, an Eagle. Talons are talons at the end of the day., they can do alot of damage to human tissue.

I was attacked by a barred owl around a decade ago. It was no joke. Felt like I got hit from behind with a full can of beer. Luckily I had been wearing a hat and avoided any cuts. The same owl attacked my neighbor much worse a few days later. Deep cuts on his face and scalp. 100% plausible theory.

I think his first attorney even though he's stuck by his side did him wrong and didn't investigate this the way that it deserved to be investigated and I think I don't understand why this new evidence couldn't be brought in or delay the trial until it was Discovery was made on it that doesn't make any sense to me a lot of things that that his first attorney did never made sense to me you're going to tell me people that you were thick as thieves with when you work in a small town like Durham North Carolina you don't know that they're doing shady stuff come on
DayoftheDead 29 days ago
I believe that the North Carolina police investigating this were completely biased which is not uncommon because I'm from North Carolina so I understand the kind of corruption that goes on in that area. People like to overlook a lot of things that are out of the ordinary it's just like the medical field you know if you don't fit a list of symptoms then we're just going to pick one for you that closely fits people if you're investigating someone's life and you're about to put them in jail I think that you owe it to that person to fairly and unbiased Lee look at every single aspect. and it's disgusting to me that even after centuries and centuries our legal system still can't do that well it takes too much manpower oh well it's okay just one more person in jail but what if that one more person was you. a relationship between a Pisces and a Scorpio is a very deep and trusting relationship in the sense that there's a lot of mutual understanding that can go on between these two water signs. things that might not be deemed appropriate by society or other relationships are totally acceptable and a water sign relationship because we understand the inner impulses that each other may have. an owl definitely attacked her the only thing that I'm confused about is why she chose to go inside instead of going back to him where he was the only thing I can think is that she didn't think it was as bad at the time and she was going to run inside and put some bandages or whatever have you on the wound and she slipped and fell.

1. Everyone against the own theory thinks that the argument is that the owl flew into the house! NO! It was proven that KP hams set up her lawn ornaments out front for Xmas that day.I think she went out front to see how they looked and / or to turn off the lights on them. Then the owl flew down, this is why there is a blood drop on front walk and the smear on the door. Michael didn’t hear her scream because of the water feature in the pool and he may have been passed out from wine. 2. I am from Nova Scotia and I know the Clayton Johnson case well.it was the exact same thing. Police wanted to prove him guilty and got witnesses to lie, change testimony etc and after investigations by the Federal Govt it was proven to be an accident. Locals just believed police because he had the Gaul to remarry a year after his wife’s death.

This was an _incredibly_ well done documentary that I found EXTREMELY upsetting. Much like Peterson's atty, David Rudolf, my trust in the justice system was also left in a pile of rubble by that jury conviction in Peterson's original trial, due to the clearly bullshit testimony from that pasty weasel, perjurous mother f*cker Duane Deaver (who should have his testicles snipped off and his wrists permanently shackled to his ankles). Deaver, it will take an entire armed SWAT team to peel my hands off of your disgusting pencil thin neck if I ever see you in person, you smarmy piece of SH*T. THEN even after all of his fabrications were exposed, how the court *CONTINUED* to side with the prosecution and uphold all of it's previous decisions. Un-f*cking-believable. YES, I do admit that the horrific scene with all the blood - it DID _appear_ to be a beating, however nearly all the evidence suggested *ANYTHING BUT* that. You could NOT beat an able-bodied woman to death with a flimsy wooden rod in a confined narrow stairwell without slinging blood EVERYWHERE, damaging the walls, or getting the skin on your face scratched and peeled off. Peterson had no, NONE, ZERO injuries from her fighting back, which she COULD/WOULD have easily done considering he was supposed to have been trying to kill her with what amounts to a rolled-up newspaper. And to top it all off, she had NO, NONE, ZERO, NADA brain injuries or skull fractures. I don't know exactly what happened to her, but I'm almost certain she was NOT beaten to death. Did anyone catch where the nanny/babysitter woman mentioned that Peterson had told her No, she's not still warm - that's from the heated floors. (Remember, they lived in a mansion-like house). So the prosecution's assertion that the blood was dry (a claim that I'm now in no way convinced was even true) _could_ have been fact, but with floor based heat, ALL bets are off on using that in any manner to estimate time of death. That southern drawley female assistant DA for the state - the one with all that nasty tattooed permanent makeup? Addressing the jurors as if they were children? I'd put my nose right up to hers, pause and then I'd spit right in her disgusting clown face. What an absolute screaming hateful c*nt. I become absolutely incandescent, glowing from pure hatred and raw anger when I see cases where the prosecution has become totally ego based, robotic, and has abanoned seeking the TRUTH and has instead become wholly absorbed with WINNING. Literally playing games with people's lives, bending evidence to fit their shitty malformed theories while tossing aside any and all evidence that indicates they may be wrong (the absolute total opposite of the scientific method), just so they can add another checkmark into the win column. I'd strongly suggest thinking twice about even going NEAR Durham, NC, whatwith their hypocritical bible thumping, finger pointing and CLEARLY corrupt fatbody DA's, judges, medical examiner and police department. I say the only proper solution is to drop a small nuke right onto those courthouse steps, plug your ears, level the city and after the smoke clears, pave over the entire goddamned place and turn it into a parking lot.

Either way, Michael didn't get a fair trial. I truly think he was always innocent. There was lack if evidence, the state did every little thing to make him look bad. I can't believe they even went to the point of digging up Elizabeth Ratliff's body after 17 years! It's sick and sad. I felt terrible for Martha and Margaret. There are so many problems with our justice system. I have family and friends who work in law that will agree and say the same. People don't deserve to give up years of their life like this. There are so many unfair cases we don't hear about too. This could happen to anyone, what if it happened to you or me? It's messed up!

I didn’t have time to scroll through all of these responses, but has anyone else noticed a slight problem with this theory? Proponents of the owl theory claim it explains the trident-shaped lacerations since those wounds look like raptor feet. Owls are zygodactyl, which means they have two toes facing forward and two toes facing backward. I’m not an ornithologist, but wouldn’t that make it unlikely that an owl would make a trident-shaped wound pattern?

The only place Kathleen was injured WAS ON HER HEAD. If she'd fought with an owl, there would have been rips all over her. Why didn''t Kathleen have rips and scratches on her hands and arms and face and shoulders and etc ? BECAUSE THERE WAS NO OWL ATTACK. If there were any micro feathers found, so what ? She'd been sitting outdoors. They had a huge property. Debris from the yard, including small feathers could have blown onto Kathleen or in her hair. VERY COINCIDENTAL THAT PETERSON JUST HAPPENED TO BE THE LAST PERSON TO BE WITH TWO WOMEN WHO BOTH MYSTERIOUSLY DIED FROM STAIRCASE ACCIDENTS. It was no coincidence that Kathleen died on the stairs. It might seem really stupid, but criminals often do repeat crimes, it would seem such a stupid thing for him to do, but usually criminals ARE stupid, they can do really stupid shit even if they're otherwise fairly intelligent. He simply killed her in the stairway, without help from any owl. He has a thing about killing women on staircases. There's also the very damning blood splatter that went UP inside his shorts !

My theory. Michael went back inside to look at his computer. Kathleen ran inside screaming blood going every where. Michael thought someone was killing her so he came to the rescue with the fire poker but hit Kathleen by accident then she hit the wall splashing blood on that wall and he wobbled from her pills hit her head again. Spraying more blood. Then Michael knew if he told the cops they wouldn’t believe him so he made it look like some body murdered her.

This may sound plausible however I don’t believe it. Years previous he was the last person to see a woman who was found dead with the same cuts in her head at the bottom of the stairs and it was deemed she fell down the stairs however now the case of this woman is further looked into they believe it may of been murder. This has happened twice to him. It is not a coincidence. The man had motives and was a pathological liar. He’s lied about so many aspects of his life including his days in the army. I believe he is guilty.

The beating theory doesn't line up. The falling theory doesn't line up. The owl theory, as ridiculous and outlandish it is. Kind of makes sense. I'm seeing people say it doesn't because should would have had to of been outside, why? It could have attacked her in the staircase. I personally have had nearly a dozen encounters with random birds in my house.
Caca Murtagh 5 months ago
Really? Wow you say the owl fits the evidence. Okay did the owl hold Michael outside for hours while Kathleen bled to death? as the blood was dry and even though he said she was breathing on the 911 call, when they arrived her pupils were fixed/dilated and that told them she had to have been dead 1 to 2 hours a least. Did the owl make him lie and say she was still alive? Did the owl make him fake that she was pissed drunk? Her prints not on wine glass and smell of wine in the sink drain( because he poured it out to look like she was drunk) did the owl make him wipe away blood and walk to the laundry room to get cleaning supplies and smeared the blood all over the walls and did the owl leave the bloody footprint on her pants with his runners? Then why take of his runners (easy, he didn't want to show his foot- print going back and forth to sink staging the scene). Why does she have his foot print? why did he walk on her? He was standing on her kicking her head into the floor. You need to ask yourself if your wife was dead on the floor why would you tell ems she is alive still but she was not, why would you care to wipe blood off the walls and use cleaning supplies, why would you take of your runners after having them on when the attack happened (wouldn't that be the last thing to think off in this panic, if you were innocent? And last but not least why the fuck would you be on your computer checking E-mails and deleting things while your soulmate wa dead in the same house, again isn't that the last thing an innocent person would be doing while they're wife is dead just a room away. You are so gullible, i get some think he is innocent and that if fine diff opinions and all that and i can't say for a fact he did it but come one an owl yet no more than a few feathers would there be owl dna wouldn't Michael have heard something, why would she be out the back with him yet after the attack close the back door and go to the stairs instead off calling him.

Did she get attacked outside then come inside to die or was the owl inside the house? Wouldn't she have left a trail of blood from her door or balcony to the bottom of the stairs?
j9 Phoenix 5 months ago
At the end of the day I feel it is the age old same old story that two people met the same demise for financial gain. Why adopt the children in Germany ? Because they bring money along having lost both parents. And with Kathleen gone another 1.8 mill - it unfortunately is one of the main reasons for murdering a spouse. Did he have any blood on him when the ambulance attended? Did he show signs of having tried to actually help her - stem the bleeding - try to render aid or comfort?
j9 Phoenix 5 months ago
It is also quite possible that once she was hit and not attacked by an owl - she put her hands up to her head either for protection or to hold her wounds and clumps of her hair had come away in her hand as the wounds were deep enough to disturb the hair follicles. Generally any evidence would not be destroyed in a potential murder case so there was opportunity to have the hair re-examined for any presence of owl feather or down or any bacteria from its talons. It is all very bizarre.

I do believe the first woman that fell down the stairs, that it was an accident. Even if this theory were true (seems highly unlikely), it doesn't jive with Michael Peterson's explanation of the evening's events. If he had been sitting outside by the pool as he claims, wouldn't he have witnessed/heard the attack? The man reeks of self-centeredness and seems to really love being on camera, but I suppose being a narcissist isn't the same as being a murder. In any case, I can't imagine this having been an accident.
Jordan Smith 5 months ago
This is laughable, I'm not sure what evidence is blowing everyone away in the comment section. It's one guy saying the cut looks like an owls foot - which is silly because an owl ripping you with his talons wouldn't resemble a foot anymore than stabbing a human resembles a hand. And another person claiming in her hair there was a feather, well, can we see it? Where is the evidence, that man wasn't connected to the case & would have no knowledge of her autopsy. Utter nonsense.

Convinced that an owl swooped down as she left pool area & was walking back to house. Maybe she past too close to a tree with an owl nest & owl was threatened. I think it took seconds. I think she reached up to her head as owl attacked which explains head, face, hand injuries. She had been drinking. I think she then continued to go into house with intention to tend to the bleeding not realizing how bad the cuts were. As she walked up steps, gets dizzy & falls back to landing. Coughs up blood & is bleeding out. The cause of death was she bled to death. Michael remained at pool area not knowing or hearing anything. Just because something is hard to believe does not make it false. I really wish this was talked about more in the series. Really was riveted by this doc. Criminal justice needs to be about the truth and not just winning. Lives are being destroyed.

IF the micro feathers theory was true thats a done deal, but what kind of person would say there were micro feathers when there was no study about it? thats total bullshit, with what authority does someone make that declaration? and how could it be possible that there were no regular feathers around? she would have fought the bird and some would have come loose. This is so misleading.
Automatonable 6 months ago
What motivation would the prosecution and SBI have for testing owl feathers, if they were trying to prove that Michael Peterson did it? The hair and feathers in her hand do not support either hypothesis (accident or MP killing her), which is why nobody questioned it. Also, the owl species in question are very large. The microscopic feathers (which they found in her hand) are what cover the owl's feet, so it makes sense if she were trying to rip the owl off her head that she would also pull out some of the feathers from the its feet along with hair from her own head accidentally.
Ex Libris 6 months ago
That was literally the first thing i thought when i saw the wounds on her head, can't believe nobody saw this for so long. That kind of makes the whole documentary obsolete.

My immediate reaction to the owl theory was YES FINALLY IT ALL MAKES SENSE. I don't even understand how so many people can say that the owl theory is laughable just because it's an unorthodox explanation.Obviously the mystery of her death was unorthodox, so why is it so hard to believe? The lacerations on her head and body look exactly like bird claw injuries--not injuries from a homocidal beating or a fall down the stairs.
Easilyiguana 5 months ago
Caca Murtagh I haven't finished the show yet, so I don't have all the data. I don't disbelieve he murdered her, but owl theory is what has made most sense to me so far. My opinion very well may change. Thanks for explaining your perspective.

I think he is innocent. Perhaps, it is just me being allured to the way Netflix portrayed his story, and yes ignorance maybe bliss. This is a man who gave up his freedom to be victimized over a murder and, stood by his words for the next 15 years. His kids, family and friends stood by him all the way. I was in awe by his charisma, charms and how he stayed so positive through such injustice that the law had served him.

I watched this documentary in one sitting and this theory nearly let me fell off my chair. Luckily not my stairs. This coincidence with Elizabeth in Germany is just insane. God, in the last scene, Mr. Peterson should have turned to the camera and said: I hate stairs

the owl theory is right..she walked in the owl was on the staircase and attacked because it felt threatened entangled in hair she was cut in her head with the talons and then to top it off fell down the stairs with the owl when she pulled the owl off her head she was bleeding all over and the owl left through the backyard door that was opened.that is what I think may have happened. makes sense they did not include the feathers in the series which is kind of f cked up.

They suspect the owl attacked on the front porch, not inside the house, because they found some of her blood there as well. The blood probably didn't soak through her hair until she came inside, then she passed out and hit the stairs.

So the owl flew in, attacked her then left? Ok well maybe this did happen. I am not 100% sure but i think he did it. I think he attacked her outside with a object. She ran in the house. He followed her and hit her again and again causing the blood to squirt out of her head which gave that unique blood splatter on the wall ( like when you dip a paint brush in paint and flick it on paper. Her hair being the paint brush bristles ) i dont even think she got past the 4 th step on those stairs. He is living in his own novel. Also the 911 call seemed off.he just hung up at the end.why the hell would yoh hang up on a service you rang and need the most at that moment in time. His actual words were on that call what to do yeah you better keep on thinking buddy. How the hell did he know she fell down the stairs? How the heck did she fall down the stairs and manage to sit like that in the hallway. She would be curled up on the stairs. I felt he wasnt upset that he just found his wife dead but realised he has done it again, gone crazy, killed her, and he can not be found guilty of this.

Okay. What object did he use? It surely wasn't the blow poke because the police found the blow poke during their initial search, took a picture of it and then reported it missing, then proceeded to use it in their weak argument. Do you honestly believe that someone in a fit of rage can gauge how hard they are hitting someone as to not cause skull fractures, brain contusions and then be neat enough not to get anything on their shirt? Not to mention keep the fight and blood contained in one tiny staircase? Michael's attorney provided hundreds of head beating cases to the jury but no other beating has there been a single instance of someone dying without skull fracture, brain contusions, and/or swelling of the brain.

How long would the owl’s sentence have been, if convicted?
