What happens if your body lacks folate? The National Institutes of Health in the US says it’s important to consume 400 mcg of folic acid every day. This vitamin is crucial for our health as it helps our body make and repair DNA and produce red blood cells. With folate deficiency, you may develop anemia, a condition in which your internal organs can’t get enough oxygen to work properly. Here are 8 common signs that your body needs more folic acid. In response, your brain’s arteries start swelling, and you get a headache. - Hemoglobin, a protein contained in red blood cells, is responsible for transporting oxygen from your lungs to all your body tissues. When your body lacks folate, you don’t have enough red blood cells (and, therefore, hemoglobin) to provide your internal organs with the necessary amount of oxygen. - If you notice that you’re out of breath when doing things you’d normally handle without any issues, this means that your oxygen levels are low because your body lacks red blood cells. - Such gastrointestinal symptoms as nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and diarrhea after meals may be the first signs that your body lacks folic acid. - Mouth sores and a swollen tongue usually occur when the lack of folate is quite severe, so you shouldn’t neglect them. - A deficiency in folic acid may result in trouble tasting food. This happens because your taste receptors, called papillae, can’t send messages to your brain via your nervous system owing to the existing tongue problems. - Pregnant women or women who are planning to get pregnant should take a daily dose of folic acid. If this warning is not taken seriously, neural tube defects or NTDs (birth defects of the brain and spinal cord) may happen to an unborn child while it’s developing inside the mother’s womb. - The easiest way to resolve folate deficiency is through your diet. To keep an adequate folic status, you should eat more dark green vegetables like broccoli, Brussels sprouts, spinach, and asparagus. As for other foods, it’s better to consume citrus fruits, avocado, beef liver, beans, mushrooms, and whole grains on a regular basis. Todays doctors are false, they teach us too much useless details like vitamins, daily intakes of calories or anything, names of diseases, medications. Herbert Shelton simplified it all saying that all medications are bad, and we are all sick, and we all should not eat except when hungry, which for all of us happens after month or more of not eating, and all diseases dissappear. I do have a sore on my lip but I think it is from accidentally biting that same area on my lip for all these years and sometimes when I bite it blood comes out :/ so I am sure I am fine

My body lacked folate and I found out that I was Anaemic last year. The symptoms were shortness of breath, tiredness, fast heart beat/palpitations, cold hands and feet. I have never been so scared and it brought on health anxiety. I am on iron pills on and off now and I have changed my diet to a vegan diet but due to a heavy cycle when off pills my levels fall. Glad I know what to do now though.

I'm certainly not going to get my health advice or recommendations from the postings of YouTube viewers (unless I know them personally to be nutrition specialists in the medical field, you know, like with a degree) given that the ratio of crackpots to educated people in the comments section is in favor of the ding-a-lings. Vitamin K is also very important for the production of red blood cells but multivitamins rarely contain this vitamin. If you want to increase your red blood cells I can imagine that you need sufficient vitamin K.

One of my friends said I was eating to many acidic foods so I stopped eating as much acidic foods for a while and it just got worse and i and started experiencing more of these symptoms, eventually I just stopped listening to him and starting eating acidic foods again and all those symptoms went away over time. Btw I used to have all the symptoms you mentioned in this video except birth defects, also I don't plan on listening to his terrible medical advice anymore -_-

To add, folic acid is the synthetic form of B9, which is added mainly to flour. Folate is the natural form that comes mainly from leafy greens and other veggies. Your body is better able to process the natural form of vitamins better than the synthetic versions usually, and folic acid and folate are no different. Ideally, you want to eat foods with folate and not mixed with any foods with folic acid. However, folic acid is better than nothing at all.

Depression can make it hard to focus and concentrate because your mind is focused on the negative.and to help with that is to try to change your thinking by thinking happy thoughts or memories or other positive things. You are still young to have any deficiency.but in your mid 20's you may want to start taking vitamin D. Other than that, like I said, you mentioned you have depression so that is why you have troubles concentrating. You can see a therapist or a doctor for that too.if you need to.
